Before the french Revolution, this region was not belonging to the king of France but to the Popes

     

Carpentras is a 30.000 inhabitants town, partly medieval.

Distances : Avignon (TGV trains to Paris, Amsterdam, London, Geneva), & Vaison-la-Romaine : 30 km,

l'Isle-sur-la-sorgue : 20km, Aix en Provence (TGV) & Marseille (harbour and international airport) : 100 km.

Markets : Carpentras (every friday), Apt, Velleron, Vaison (one every day within a 30 km distance)

Antics and flea markets: L'Isle sur la sorgue (every w.e), Avignon (saturday), Carpentras (sunday)

Festivals in summer : Orange (Chorégies), Avignon (theatre) Vaison-la-romaine, Aix-en-Provenc
