In Vaucluse district and Provence region, Carpentras is the Comtat Venaissin capital (before the french revolution, this region was not belonging to the king of France but to the Popes).

Carpentras is a 30.000 inhabitants town, partly medieval.
Distances : Avignon (TGV trains to Paris, Amsterdam, London, Geneva), & Vaison-la-Romaine : 30 km,
l'Isle-sur-la-sorgue : 20km, Aix en Provence (TGV) & Marseille (harbour and international airport) : 100 km.
Markets : Carpentras (every friday), Apt, Velleron, Vaison (one every day within a 30 km distance)
Antics and flea markets: L'Isle sur la sorgue (every w.e), Avignon (saturday), Carpentras (sunday)
Festivals in summer : Orange (Chorégies), Avignon (theatre) Vaison-la-romaine, Aix-en-Provence
